Is the Signal app safe?
Signal is considered a very secure VOIP app because it prioritizes user privacy and security above all else. Unlike many other VOIP apps, Signal offers end-to-end encryption by default, meaning that only the sender and recipient can read the messages and calls, not even the app’s developers. This is a key difference from apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, Viber and Google Chat, which may only offer optional end-to-end encryption or collect more user data.
- Default Encryption:
Signal’s end-to-end encryption is always on, unlike other apps that may require specific settings or modes to enable it.
- Privacy Focus:
Signal minimizes data collection and is transparent about what information it does collect, while other apps like WhatsApp and Telegram collect more user data for various purpose
- Open Source:
Signal is an open-source project, meaning its code is publicly available for review and scrutiny, which increases trust and transparency.
- No Ads or Business Model:Signal is funded by donations rather than selling data for advertising, ensuring that user privacy is not compromised by business interests
If you ask me: Is the Signal app safe?
Yes, Signal is one of the safest messaging platforms you can use.
It’s end-to-end encrypted, meaning only the devices where Signal is installed can read and see the message. It doesn’t keep logs, either, so there’s never any record of your messages stored on its servers. In fact, Signal data is locally stored on your device and can’t be found anywhere else.
I personally experienced this with my Signal account. The conversations on my iPhone app, and I can also access them on desktop computers, when I’m logged in. (I use an iMac and a MacBook Air)
Signal is a messaging app with privacy at its core. It is free and easy to use, with strong end-to-end encryption that keeps our/your communication completely private. Send texts, voice messages, photos, videos, GIFs, and files for free. Signal uses your phone’s data connection, so you avoid SMS and MMS fees
With no ties to Big Tech, Signal is my favorite secure messaging app.
Signal is gaining popularity as a secure alternative to WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Telegram, but you may wonder if it’s as safe as it claims. The short answer is yes. Signal uses end-to-end encryption as well as other security measures and has customizable options for even more security.
If you couple Signal with a quality VPN, you have even more security that protects not only your messages but also your internet traffic.
I am regular user of Signal and recommend it to anyone concerned about privacy.
Happy live chatting, sending pictures, documents, videos!
Be safe, above all!
